I credit Ichiban with my introduction to, and therefore obsession with, Japanese food. Chicken teriyaki, fried rice EXTRA GINGER SAUCE. Don't think I've strayed from this order in the 18 or so years I've been coming here. Their ginger dressing will really ruin salads for you... have yet to find anything close to it in grocery stores. Don't let the stark decor throw you off...there's a reason this place isn't fancy. It's because their food is amazing and they don't need to be :D

Well, it's cheap. Considering the amount of restaurants in that shopping plaza (Melvin's, Graze, Aya), I'm actually surprised at how resilient this place is. Don't go in expecting gourmet, and no one will get hurt. The chicken and beef are almost always "done". My fears of salmonella are non-existent here as they cook the tar out of these proteins. The rice is passable teppenyaki style rice. The ginger dressing for the "salad" is bloody putrid. The people who run the joint are nice, and they will accommodate requests. It is cheaper than the Benihana style places, but there is no show. The interior is kind of dank, but not depressingly so. The taste of the food is alright, but nothing a little soy sauce can't fix.

Oh my word, this is not really food. The star is for service, which was decent. Chicken teriyaki was tasteless except for a little sweetness. The Gyoza was the worst I have ever had. It isn't even cooked properly. Sorry, I've never even been moved enough to write a review before. Save your money.

Nothing I had at Ichiban was good. If it actually was Chinese take-out, like it so closely resembled, I would be looking for another Chinese take-out place. I also don't like Chinese take-out, FWIW. Against better judgement, on the recommendation of an acquaintance, we brought a group of friends here for an easy, close-by dinner. To be fair and thorough, I will mention everything we had. The ice water, was absolutely on point, couldn't have messed that up. Our waiter was nice, and attentive. The pan-fried dumplings were overcooked, slightly burned, and didn't have any particular good taste to them. The sauce was salty and saucy. Word. The miso soup, while it seemed at first taste to make me optimistic with the toothsome wakame, had a bit of a funk to it, and was a bit weird. Miso-y, not bad, not good. The salad w ginger dressing. Iceberg and shredded carrots, tasteless, obviously, but we are here for the ginger dressing everyone on yelp raved about. Not even close. It tasted whack, needed a bit of sugar, and was easily the worst ginger dressing I've had in a while. For mains, we had the Ichiban special, and a spicy chicken. Totally undiscernable between either of these plates. Even when I asked for the spicy chicken to actually be spicy, and for the "spicy" Ichiban special to be the "not so spicy-spicy" as the waiter referenced. Tasted exactly the same. Like way overcooked chicken/meat/protein with an MSGish sauce, on over oiled sautéed sad vegetables, with half a plate of fried rice. It was rice, toasted with pepper, not particularly good. A friend noticed the mushrooms in the veg, and notified the waiter of his allergy, asking for a new plate, and was denied. The waiter came back later and offered a plate of rice and teriyaki sauce... not sure how that delivers the main course without sitting on the 'shrooms, but whatever. Like I said, not good. Might be better asian food at the hot bar in Whole Foods.

A Mt. P. institution, Ichiban is quick, cheap, and delicious. The ingredients are fresh and consistent. My only gripe is the "white sauce" that is a lot thicker than most places.

VERY Friendly, good food, great prices. I like this place a lot. Think "Japanese diner" and you'll understand.

Solid Americanized Japanese. Not a very big selection (all teriyaki) but the employees are delightful.
